My bf and I had both been craving seafood so we decided to go to Ports O’Call in San Pedro to fulfill our craving. What I like about Ports O’Call is that there are tons of little “restaurants” to choose from that all offer just about the same thing. You get to pick your dinner off the ice/tank, so you know it’s fresh! After browsing through the various restaurants and dodging people who were happily intoxicated off of margaritas, we ended up at Alaska Seafood. I knew exactly what I wanted because I go there for one particular thing: 7 seas soup.
I have never actually counted the number of different creatures in the soup but I assume there are 7 based on the name. Crab legs, fish, muscles, baby octopus, shrimp, squid (?)…and 1 other unidentifiable ingredient. The soup is light yet savory. It doesn’t overpower the natural flavor of the seafood. It is served with 2 sides of white rice. After eating a few bowls of this, I wasn’t even hungry but I had to eat some of the other stuff we ordered. We got the standard shrimp “fajitas.”
They saute the shrimp in the shell with bell peppers, potatoes, tomatoes and a spiced tomato sauce. I remember the sauce being less ketchup-y and more tasty last time but it was still alright. The garlic bread on the side is random but is a nice touch. We also got oyster tempura but it wasn’t tempura…it was just breaded and deep fried. I didn’t try them because I’m not a fan of oysters in general. According to my bf, it wasn’t good. Never again.
