My mom just had surgery at Cedars Sinai Hospital in West Los Angeles. I originally intended on staying at the hospital for 2 days but ended up staying 4 days. While my mom was stuck eating gross hospital food, I got to explore some good eats in the area. I even got to try bld, a restaurant I’ve been trying to visit for awhile now.
The first night my sister and I were there, we went to Real Food Daily. It is a restaurant that serves organic vegan cuisine.
My sister ordered the special of the week: Mexico City Tacos -Two crispy tacos with red chili beans, tempeh and vegetables, smoky chipotle cheese, avocado, jicama slaw, fiesta rice. The tacos didn’t taste authentic but they were still delicious. The chipotle cheese and jicama slaw were amazing.
Later in the week, I convinced my dad to go to bld on Beverely Blvd. I have been wanting to go there to try their Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes for several months because I had seen them featured on the Food Network.
My dad ordered the pancakes so I made him give me a sample. They are crusty on the outside, moist on the inside (not moist in a raw way but moist from the ricotta). They taste a little bit like cheesecake but are not at all heavy. I was in pancake heaven.
I was starving and in need of something hearty. I ordered Ode to Butterfield’s- thinly sliced flatiron steak, poached eggs, cabernet sauvignon hollandaise, house made english muffin, fingerling potatoes. I don’t know what they did to the steak but it was super tender. The eggs were perfectly runny. The english muffin was not your average muffin. It was more moist and tasted like a buttery croissant.
Oh, and as we were finishing up our meal, Cuba Gooding Jr. sat down at a table next to us. I think he ordered a Spicy Ahi Tuna Burger (just if you were wondering).
